Coventry University Sports Scholarships (limited)

Our outstanding Sports Scholarship programme consists of two levels and offers either £1,500 or £3,000 in a mixture of a cash bursary and support services per academic yearSports Scholarships are awarded competitively to approximately 40-45 students each year who have the sporting ability to represent the University at a high level. To be considered for one of these scholarships you must be competing in a sport which is part of the BUCS Sport, Olympic Sports or Paralympic Sports programmes.

The Academic Merit Scholarship (unlimited) worth £1,500 - year one only 

At Coventry University we like to recognise those students who are already performing well when it comes to their education. The Coventry University Academic Merit Scholarship scheme is our chance to reward hard work and encourage those who have the potential to be an excellent undergraduate student.

The Academic Merit Scholarship recognises high academic achievement and is available to students who achieve a certain level of A-Level or equivalent qualifications.

Coventry University’s Academic Excellence scholarship is worth £1,500. It is assessed based on academic achievement and available to students who achieve 160 UCAS points or more. 

The basic criteria will be:

  • Achieve at least 160 UCAS points or above*

    *Points can be calculated using the UCAS Tariff Points calculator.

Certain exclusions will apply to this scholarship:

You will not be eligible to apply for a Coventry University Merit Scholarship if you are a:

  • Student on a Foundation Degree or Foundation Art and Design course
  • Student on an undergraduate foundation year (year zero)
  • Student studying on a franchised or validated Coventry University course at another institution (e.g. Coventry University College)
  • An overseas student – Please see the ‘International students’ webpage.
  • Student who is not charged the maximum tuition fee
  • Student already holding a degree qualification

How do I apply?

There will be no requirement to submit an application form as students will be identified automatically by the University and contacted after enrolment to confirm awards. Further details will be available on the website nearer to the time.

How will I be paid?

If eligible, a cash payment will usually be made in one instalment in the February of your first academic year.

Santander bursaries for care leavers

This bursary provides automatic enrolment onto the Coventry University Global Leaders Programme (registration fee normally £300) and financial support designed to enable students to undertake the international trips offered through the programme.

To be eligible you must live in the UK, be under 25 years old, and have been in UK Local Authority care for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14.

Students should apply following September enrolment in 2020.

External bursaries and scholarships (September 2020 entry)

All of the scholarships listed below are funded by external organisations mainly charitable trusts which have their own sets of eligibility criteria.

Bursaries and scholarships will open on Monday 07 September 2020 and close on Friday 09 October 2020.

Linda Benfield 

This bursary is for the following students:

  1. 2nd, 3rd and 4th year female UK undergraduates who are studying engineering (BEng) degrees (females are under-represented in this field). First year female engineering undergraduates can apply for a Tata Technologies scholarship (see below).
  2. All undergraduates (1st, 2nd, 3rd years) studying in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
  • No. of bursaries: 10 (5 x Engineering and 5 x Health and Life Sciences)
  • Bursary: £1000 paid in 3 instalments
  • Students must have a family income of £35,000 or less per year

National Express Foundation

This bursary is for:

  1. UK undergraduates with a disability whose home/family address is in the West Midlands (Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Sandwell, Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall) and who have a family income of £23,500 or less per year.

  2. UK undergraduates who have been in care for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14 and who were in care on their 16th birthday, and who before coming to the University were living in the West Midlands ((Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Sandwell, Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall).

This scholarship is for any UK/EU first year female engineering undergraduate who is studying:

  1. Motorsport Engineering
  2. Automotive Engineering
  3. Mechanical Engineering
  4. Aerospace Technology
  5. Aerospace Systems Engineering
  6. Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  7. Electrical Engineering
  8. Computer Hardware and Software Engineering
  9. Electronic Engineering
  10. Ethical Hacking and Cyber Security

These are all subjects where females are under-represented in HE.

Ada Lovelace 

This scholarship is for first year UK and EU female undergraduates studying any STEM subject (with the exception of Ethical Hacking and Cyber Security and BEng degrees delivered by the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Automotive Engineering) – see Tata Technologies scholarships above). Females are under-represented in STEM subjects in HE.

Leverhulme Trade Charities

Bursaries (£3,000 and £5,000 per year) are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

To be eligible you must:

  • Be studying full time
  • Be in financial need
  • Have a parent or spouse who has worked as a pharmacist, grocer or commercial traveller for at least 5 years (or has retired in the last 10 years).

Undergraduate deadline: – 15 October 2020, 01 March 2021
Postgraduate deadline: – 01 September 2020
